Carry On- Stephen Stills of CSNY

Personification
In “Carry On” Stephen Stills of CSNY conveys enchanting personification in order to get his point across that life is a cycle and that “love is coming to us all”. While saying “The sky is clearing and the night has cried enough” he is referring to a storm that had taken place; more or less a break-up that the he was devastated by and is starting to get over; also now in the morning he is seeing the sun and the world is starting to “soften up”. While using this relaxing personification he adds a hyperbole in the mix which carries on the song by talking about “new eyes” which relates to the new outlook and perspective he has on the sudden change in his life. With his girlfriend leaving so abruptly he is left with questions, “questions of a thousand dreams”, because he doesn’t know what he did wrong for the reasons why she left. Stephen Still writes a song that is about losing love, without knowing the reasons why, and putting personification in to add another dimension to the cliché topic.

Student-Choice Test

Today I have seen what I never wanted to see in a million years. I could only imagine what it would look like, feel like, be like, but never did I actually think I would see it. I felt a cold rush through my bones; making them quiver with fear. My head starts to drip in sweat even though it is fourty degrees outside with a cap of snow on the ground. My knees start to shake, and it seems as if they are crackling in the wind. My palms are clamy, as if I drenched them in water. What I have seen I hope nobody ever has to. It is something so horride and dreadful, I will never be able to escape the image from my mind.

Student-Authored Song

Here forever
Gone for now
I'll be in your dreams
You'll be watched over

Dry your eyes
And be happy for now
You deserve to smile,
That beautiful smile

Brush your hair
And go out to have fun

Here forever
Gone for now
I'll be in your dreams
You'll be watched over

Mourning will do no good
For you or for me
Happiness is all I care to see
I have been everything to you
As you have been to me

Here forever
Gone for now
I'll be in your dreams
You'll be watched over

Here forever
Gone for now
I'll be in your dreams
.....You'll be watched over

"My Wish" fictional story

She lay in a bed of flowers. She is atop a hill, where there is not a cloud in the sky. She is there by herself and looking a little sad, she is just laying there, still as one could. She was staring up at the sky. Only one cloud was surfaced in the baby blue sea. It was lightly covering the sun; the day was bright, but not causing her to squint when looking at the bare blue. One tear was slowly, mournfully falling down her face. Her heart was pierced like a gun was just shot through her chest, or a knife just went through her delicate bearing heart. She was slowly dying, and all I could do was watch and wait.
A few days earlier…
“I hate you! Why are you ruining everything?!” She knocks the flower case over causing loud crash and water filling the tile cracks on the floor. It was a gift he got her when she broke her leg. He brought it to the hospital so there would be something bright and lively in the dull, tan, infectious room.
“I just-“
“What? Don’t need me anymore! I gave up everything for you.”
“I can’t live a lie.”
“Yeah. Well you just wasted mine.”

They’ve had fights before, but this was no ordinary fight. She was yelling, screaming even. She never did such a thing. She was poise and polite, cautious of her actions because she felt that everyone was judging her. She was acting out of character, if it is possible to do so. I was shocked at what was occurring before my eyes.
They were high school sweet hearts; met each other in tenth grade. He was only a couple days older than her, five to be exact. They met during biology class. The teacher assigned the two to be partners on the dissection of a pig. It was now Wednesday- day of the “surgery”. They did not know each other well, just that they were in the same grade and had seventh grade reading together. But even then they did not speak to each other. Well anyways, there they were standing behind the lab bench and then- plop, Mrs. Aisle dropped the dead pig on the bench. Lilly was never more disgusted in her life. Lilly is this girl I keep talking about. She is tall and slender. She has dirty blonde hair with green eyes. Her eyes were abnormally large from everyone else’s. I guess that’s why people said she was strange. She didn’t have many friends; she was more of a free will, relaxed type of person, where as everyone else was uptight and insecure.
The two of them start cutting the huge pig down the center of its stomach. The first item they need to get out of the pig is the heart. Lilly wanted nothing to do with it. She was has a sour look to her face every time Luke is cutting and ripping at the pigs intestines.
Luke was a care free person who was quite popular. He was the captain and best player of the lacrosse team. He didn’t really like the fact that she was partners with Lilly, seeing that she was looked at as an outcast, but he thought he should be working together for two mothers. Mrs. Aisle said that they would be with their partner, dissecting ass types of animals, to see the different sizes of the body parts.
As the weeks went on they started talking to each other. The now became friends, and looked forward to seeing each other every other day. They started to text and flirt in the halls. It was evident that the two of them had a crush on each other, and Lilly really liked him because he wasn’t embarrassed to be around her. She was actually getting more friends when she became partners with Luke in biology class. Soon after they started to date. They won prom queen and king in the senior year. They had been dating for about two years. Things were looking bright for their future. But by the end of senior year Lilly found out that she was pregnant. The two of them were both paralyzed with fear but also secretly a little happy. The two of them knew they were going to be together forever and so they thought that they were just getting an early start of their life together.
With the baby came chaos. Their parents kicked them out of the house once they found out about  Lilly, making the two of them live on their own. Luckily they had been working for three years and had been saving up their money. They also decided not to go to college, and used the money for college to use on their family.
Six years went on. They were living well, in a modern house; Luke had an impressive job that held the family over and then some. They were able to go on family vacations. They went to Disney world for Liam’s sixth birthday. He loved it there. He never wanted to leave, but the week was over and Chicago was calling them home.
A couple months went by and life had an unspoken tension. Luke and Lilly were not getting along, picking petty fights between each other and overall not really talking to each other. This made Liam very sad. He didn’t know what was wrong with his  parents. Why were they miserable? It seemed like a struggle for them to get out of bed every day and carry on with the daily activities. They were now completely different people from when they were in high school. They seemed to resent each other.
A few days later…
“I hate you! Why are you ruining everything?!” She knocks the flower case over causing a loud crash and water filling the tile cracks on the floor.
So here I am, watching her lay mournfully in the bed of flowers. Seeing just one tear rolling down her cheek. She is sad of the events that will come next; the divorce and separation of her child. For I have to chose between my parents on who I will be living with. I will be seeing one parent frequently less and less because one is staying in Chicago while the other is moving to Colorado. The one I choose will be the one I stay with, the one I get to know and call my mother or father, while the other may grow to resent me because I didn’t give them a chance. My mother is worried and thus this is why she is most gloomy. Her one tear is for me, the thought of losing me.

"My Wish" Lyrics by Rascal Flatts

"My Wish"

I hope that the days come easy and the moments pass slow,
And each road leads you where you want to go,
And if you're faced with a choice, and you have to choose,
I hope you choose the one that means the most to you.
And if one door opens to another door closed,
I hope you keep on walkin' till you find the window,
If it's cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile,

But more than anything, more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.

I hope you never look back, but ya never forget,
All the ones who love you, in the place you left,
I hope you always forgive, and you never regret,
And you help somebody every chance you get,
Oh, you find God's grace, in every mistake,
And you always give more than you take.

But more than anything, yeah, and more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.

This is my wish
I hope you know somebody loves you
May all your dreams stay big

"Just a Kiss" by Lady Antebellum SA2

Love is difficult to find, but once found people are never happier. Some might take it to fast when falling for someone who might end the relationship, while others take it to slow and end up in the “friend zone”. One needs to find a balance between the two, and once found with the right person, love will be cast upon them. In “Just a Kiss” Lady Antebellum depicts passionate imagery in order to explore affectionate allegory, yearning mood, and intense understatement to show that when given time “It’ll only bring us closer to the love we wanna find”.

band

Antebellum conveys affectionate allegory to show the extent of how two people feel about each other. This song is sung by two people, male and female, both preaching the same message. The person is on a date and has very strong feelings towards the other, but doesn’t want to fall to fast. She is trying “to fight these feelings when it feels so hard to breathe” when she in on this date. She cannot actually “fight” the feelings she had, which is personification. She can also breathe fine, but she wants to show the listener the affect this man is having on her, he is simply taking her breath away. She goes on to say, “I’ve never opened up to anyone”; inquiring that she feels remarkably close to him instantly. One might perceive that she meant she opened up her actual body to this man. She knows she is starting to fall for this boy, and she doesn’t know what to do. She is “caught up in this moment” and” in your smile”; she doesn’t know how to react. There is no net or arms that the man is using to “catch” her smile and the moment, but rather she is saying that she is enjoying this moment and likes these things about him.
Antebellum portrays a yearning mood throughout the song. The song is talking about two people falling in love, but don’t want to take it too fast yet they want to because they love each other’s company. The mood is yearning because they want to be with each other, but also to “take is slow” by only giving each other “just a kiss goodnight”. The feelings are growing throughout the night, but she feels that if she goes to fast things can be lost. This is where the tone of the song comes in. She seems a little nervous throughout her date with him. She has these feelings that she cannot help yet she only wants “a kiss goodnight”. She decides that time will tell if they will have something special, so she says “No I don’t want to say goodnight, I know it’s time to leave, but you’ll be in my dreams”. The tone and mood of the song is that she is falling in love, but is going to take her time and not rush into anything to make sure that he is going to be the real deal.
Throughout “Just a Kiss” understatement is used to describe their night; it is lessening the effect it actually had. She starts by saying, “Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight”. Many people who have their first kiss with their boyfriend are very excited, especially if it is as romantic as under the night moon and stars. She goes to make it sound that it is nothing, and not a big deal to her. The chorus is filled with understatement:
“Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight
Just a touch on the first burning so bright
No I don’t want to mess this thing up
I don’t want to push to far
Just a shot in the dark that you just might
Be the one I’ve been waiting for my whole life
So baby I’m alright, with just a kiss goodnight.”
When one touches a fire, it is very hot and is excruciating pain. Antebellum makes it seem nonchalant as with “Just a shot in the ark that you just might- Be the one I’ve been waiting for my whole life”. When someone finds their sole mate it is one of the best moments in their life. She makes it sound that it is just another thing that happened to her; neither happy or sad. She makes these events sound average using understatement.
People search for their soul mate all their life.  In “Just a Kiss” she has found her soul mate, and decides that time will tell if they will last. By using allegory, mood, and understatement, she makes the listener feel that they are there that night going through what she went through using explicit imagery.

Just A Kiss by Lady Antebellum lyrics

Lyin' here with you so close to me
It's hard to fight these feelings when it feels so hard to breathe
Caught up in this moment
Caught up in your smile

I've never opened up to anyone
So hard to hold back when I'm holding you in my arms
We don't need to rush this
Let's just take this slow

Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight
Just a touch in the fire burning so bright
And I don't want to mess this thing up
I don't want to push too far
Just a shot in the dark that you just might
Be the one I've been waiting for my whole life
So baby I'm alright, with just a kiss goodnight

I know that if we give this a little time
It will only bring us closer to the love we wanna find
It's never felt so real, no it's never felt so right

Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight
Just a touch in the fire burning so bright
And I don't want to mess this thing up
I don't want to push too far
Just a shot in the dark that you just might
Be the one I've been waiting for my whole life
So baby I'm alright, with just a kiss goodnight

No I don't want to say goodnight
I know it's time to leave, but you'll be in my dreams
Tonight
Tonight
Tonight

Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight
Just a touch in the fire burning so bright
And I don't want to mess this thing up
I don't want to push too far
Just a shot in the dark that you just might
Be the one I've been waiting for my whole life
So baby I'm alright, oh, let's do this right, with just a kiss goodnight
With a kiss goodnight
Kiss goodnight
